この作品の中には、1989～2000年の間に世界各地で行われた様々なプロジェクトの中より選定された計66のプロジェクトの記録画像が詰め込まれています。
これまでのプロジェクトを包括したい、という蔡の希望と同時に、少年期のアートへのあこがれのような純粋な想いがこの作品づくりの根底にあり、その想いが結実した万華鏡。この1本1本の中で蔡の想い描く夢の結晶が花開きます。

Artist Statement
“万華鏡─Kaleidoscope”には
これまでの作品写真の細片が入っている。
そこに閉じ込められた作品の記録は色絵となって、
万華鏡という無限の世界の中で、
作品たちが生き物のように混じり合って
美しいドラマを展開していく。
いろんな素材を使い、いろんなテーマや
コンセプトによって作られた作品の裏に、
なにかの共通点を見るとき、
私には、“万華鏡”のように見えてくる。
それは、少年の頃からのアートへの愛着によって―
夢のように一つずつ作っていくことだろうと思う。

The kaleidoscope contains small pieces of my old photos. This record of my works is transformed into a colorful painting within this enclosed space.
The images blend together like a living creature inside the infinite world of the kaleidoscope.
The result is the beautiful creation of a drama.
When I see something in common among the various themes and concepts behind works that use a variety of materials, I am reminded of a kaleidoscope.
I think this approach - developing from my life-long attachment to the arts - is to create individual items from a dream state.
