ニューヨークのマンハッタンに暮らす人々を被写体として、大きな成果を上げているシムラユウスケ。彼の作品は見知らぬ人々との、ある一定の距離感を保ちながら、ニューヨークという大都市の空間に人々を文字通り位置づける。建築写真や都市計画写真に類する、パースペクティブを際立たせた構図に、個々の人物を配した作品は単なるありふれたスナップではなく、精妙なコンポジションそのものだ。人工の極であるアンドレアス・グルスキーの客観的な制作態度に近いともいえる。一方、外来者でありながら、帰宅を急ぐ彼らの目的地を想像して、Have a good weekend !! と声をかけるかのような、被写体の人物たちに対する普遍的な愛ともいうべき、フランクな親近感を感じさせ、不安な街の安堵する一面を垣間見せている。

シムラユウスケ / Yusuke Shimura 1981年生まれ。現代アートの新しい担い手として、写真、ドローイングを国内外で発表し、雑誌「TOKION」のニューヨーク特集、「装苑」の次世代の6人に取り上げられるなど様々なメディアから注目を集めているアーティスト。近年では国外での制作を軸に中東(ドバイ、シャルジャ)での最新作の制作(2011'AIR)や、海外からの作品のコレクション、ニューヨーク、東南アジアでの発表や特集が決まるなど国内外での活躍している若手アーティストの1人として注目されています。 主な展覧会にトーキョーワンダーサイトでの個展「WITCH」、国内2都市のアップルストアによるシムラユウスケ特集、BankART Studio NYKでのシムラユウスケ「OPEN DREAM」(2010' AIS)、「RUN'3」(2012' ROOM GALLERIA、ミラノ)、「Magictime」( 2012' NADiff)の他、吉田カバン(PORTER)が唯一サポートしているアーティストとして 「YUSUKE SHIMURA TOKYO NEWYORK supported by YOSHIDA&CO.」などのメディアワークを展開。 アーティストサイト: www.yusukeshimura.com
Yusuke Shimura is known for a series of photographs entitled “Human Museum”. This series feature people living in Manhattan, New York. His works are not snapshots but exquisite compositions. In a new series of “Magictime”, he presents magical moments by constructing color, straight line and postures of figures which exist in the day-to-day world. “The moment at which nobody sees is the moment anybody can see” is the concept of this series. He catches that moment, which occurs 30 minutes before sunset, when stunningly beautiful sky are created. He emphasize this vibrant color with impressive line creating and emphasizing perspective. His works show us another aspect in daily life which can go unnoticed. People are captured with a cool-detached attitude, but it makes us feel a sense of affinity and universal love. When we analyze his works, we get a glimpse of relaxing moment for the people who are living in unstable city. Born in 1981, Yusuke Shimura has worked as a photographer, a painter and a drawing character "fuwari" producer in Japan and overseas and has held a number of solo exhibitions. Working in Tokyo and New York currently, he develops various media collaboration projects such as "YUSUKE SHIMURA TOKYO NEWYORK supported by YOSHIDA&CO." In 2006, he held a collaboration exhibition with the fashion brand ANTEPRIMA, known for its participation in the Milan Collection.
